A Mystical Adventure with Hällas at the Futurum Club

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, I headed once again to my favorite club in Prague, the Futurum expecting a decent musical experience and some mystical, adventurous rock from the Swedish band Hällas. By the way, it was also the final show of their European tour.

The evening was opened by a duo Earth Tongue. It really is just the two of them performing—a drummer and a guitarist—who take turns at the microphone during the songs. They traveled all the way to Europe from faraway New Zealand to showcase their unconventional music. The whole performance struck me as very alternative and highly experimental. Some songs were heavily influenced by electronic effects, while others were darker, even a bit horror-like. Personally, I’m not entirely sure what to make of it, and I probably don’t need to see them again.

Swedish band Hällas left a much more pleasant impression on me. Although the band has only been around for about 15 years, it draws its greatest inspiration from the 1970s, and the whole evening had a very retro feel to it. Of course, this had the greatest impact on the sound. The songs feature very delicate melodies played on guitars and keyboards, complemented by soft vocals. Surprisingly, though, they’re also quite energetic and almost transport you to another world. Hällas set out on tour primarily because of their newly released album “Panorama,” which they also wanted to present live. They played a total of four songs from it, including the released single “Face of an Angel.”

Overall, the evening didn’t really surprise me, but it didn’t disappoint me either. There aren’t many bands left that stick to a similar retro style, and even though it’s not really my usual taste, I enjoyed it. I definitely wasn’t the only one, because the club was pretty packed and it was clear that no one was bored.
