Když jsem jela na Metal Párty ve Zbytinách, tak jsem měla domluvený ještě jeden další rozhovor a to se samotným frontmanem bavorské skupiny Crystallion, Tonym Sunclear.
Ahoj, Tony, ráda tě poznávám. Ty jsi stále novým zpěvákem skupiny Crystallion. Mohl bys vysvětlit, jak ses k této kapele dostal a proč si vybrali právě tebe?
Také té rád poznávám. No, byl to tak trochu osud, protože jsem se stěhoval ze Států zpátky do Rakouska. Vždycky jsem dělal nějakou hudbu a toužil jsem po rokenrolu. V oblasti, kde jsem žil, žádný metal nebyl a pak jsem našel v novinách inzerát, že Crystallion stále potřebují zpěváka. Vůbec jsem tu kapelu neznal a prostě jsem jim napsal, když hledali, jestli by bylo možné s nimi jamovat. Řekli, že jo, ať přijdu. A taky se zeptali: Nechceš se ucházet o místo zpěváka? Ale já jsem odpověděl, že bych se jim asi nelíbil, protože pocházím z death trashových věcí. Ale i přesto si řekli o nějaký materiál. Tak jsem jim ho poslal. Odpověděli mi: Musíš to aspoň zkusit. Tak to začalo a první zkouška byla hrozná. Byla to totální katastrofa. Netrefil jsem správně žádnou notu a bylo to hrozné, trapné. No, pak jsem přišel podruhé a pak potřetí a pak jsme to zkoušeli počtvrté a po čtvrté mi nabídli práci. Bylo to čím dál lepší, tak jsme to zkusili.
Ale teď už jsi rád, že s nimi můžeš zpívat a být s nimi?
Úplně, předtím jsem neznal žádnou jejich písničku. A potom když jsem se ty písničky naučil, tak jsme si říkali, páni, to je šílené. Já jsem vyrůstal na Manowar a podobných věcech z devadesátých let. A ještě jeden zábavný fakt. Martin, bubeník, a Steve, baskytarista, a já jsme byli všichni na jednom koncertě v roce 1994 v Mnichově na koncertě Manowar, aniž bychom se znali. Proto říkám, že je to nejspíš osud. Byla to jen otázka času, kdy na sebe konečně narazíme.
Plánujete společně nahrát novou hudbu?
Ano, už máme připravené písničky. Na album nám chybí možná tři nebo čtyři písničky. Ale vlastně za šest týdnů (od 12. 4. 2025) začne Martin nahrávat bicí. Přesný časový harmonogram ještě nemáme, takže deska by mohla vyjít koncem letošního roku nebo na jaře 2026. Ale už se něco děje!
Jak si užíváte turné s Claymorean a Solar System?
Je mi ctí být na turné s Claymorean a Solar System. Jsou to opravdoví přátelé. Hlavně Solar System, známe se už víc než dva roky a odehráli jsme spolu pár koncertů. Celé se to nese v duchu metalové rodinné záležitosti. Kde nejde o peníze, slávu nebo hlouposti a jen se společně bavíme, děláme metal, udržujeme metal naživu. Všichni sdílíme stejného ducha, a proto máme pocit, že to tak má být.
Jak se chovají fanoušci? Jaké to bylo v Německu?
Bylo to docela ohromující. Když se nad tím zamyslíš, možná ne tak ohromující, jak by se mohlo zdát. Ať už jsme byli kdekoli, od prvního okamžiku, kdy Solar System vstoupili na pódium, až do chvíle, kdy jsme ho my opustili, tam byli všichni lidé, všichni křičeli, řvali a hýbali se. Až do posledního akordu poslední kapely. A tak to bylo na každém koncertě. Myslím, že to kouzlo je dáno tím, že jsme jeli co-headlinerské turné. Na naše koncerty chodili jen lidé, kteří nás skutečně chtěli vidět. Takže tam byli všichni kvůli nám a všichni přišli na velkou párty. Bylo to prostě úžasné. Ne vždycky přišlo hodně lidí, měli jsme několik opravdu nízkých návštěvností, což se dalo čekat. Ale o to víc bylo super, že tam byla první řada, která nám dala všechno.
Jak vás přijali jako nového zpěváka?
Jo, to je zázrak. Trochu jsem se bál, hlavně ze začátku, kdy můj zpěv nebyl tam, kde jsem chtěl. Dneska ho taky neuslyšíte tam, kde bych ho chtěl mít, protože jsem trochu z formy. Ale přijali mě jako rodinu, jinak by o tom ani nemluvili. Je to skvělé.
Jak se ti líbí Česká republika a české publikum?
No, není náhoda, že se do Česka vracíme tak často, jak jen to jde. Máme to tady rádi, jsou tady dobří lidé, dobrá parta. Je to trochu oldschool, tak jak to má být. Řekl bych, že tady, v téhle malé vesnici, ještě víc.
Když jsme měli koncerty v Německu se Solar System a později jsme mluvili s lidmi, tak se jim líbily. Opravdu se jim to líbilo, i když třeba nerozuměli textům, ale myslím, že v tom bylo to kouzlo. Protože jste se museli soustředit na hudbu. Oto (zpěvák Solar System) neumí moc anglicky ani německy, takže se jen usmíval a lidi kolem sebe tím prostě dostal. Milovali ho, protože jsou nadšení ze stejné věci. Ztratili jsme úplně hlas. Jo, a taky jsme přišli o starý transparent Crystallion. Nechali jsme ho ve Frankfurtu. Přišli jsme o Pattiho, našeho kytaristu. Na tom turné jsme přišli o spoustu věcí. Takže hlas je jen jedna věc na dlouhém seznamu.
Kdo je hlavním autorem a textařem nových písní na připravovaném albu?
Obvykle je to Steve, ale na novém albu jsme to my všichni. Každý má dvě, tři písně, na jejichž psaní se podílí. Na mě hodili tak čtyři nebo dokonce pět písní, abych napsal texty. Prý ty jsi zpěvák, musíš psát texty. Ty budeš ten, kdo je bude zpívat. Takže to byla taková skupinová práce. Steve má většinou pořád poslední slovo, někdo musí mít. A on je spolu s Martinem zakladatelem a nejstarším členem.
Co dalšího chystáte do budoucna?
Nemáme s sebou žádná stará CDčka, jen poslední dvě desky, protože jsou vyprodané. Taky nám skončily nahrávací společnosti a tak. Ale teď se nám vrátila práva, ne na první album, ale na druhé a třetí. Uděláme reedici, a protože je to moc dlouhé na jeden vinyl, tak to musí být dvojalbum. Taky máme pár super nápadů, jak to doplnit a udělat ještě výjimečnější. Bude to před vydáním nového alba, ať máme co nabídnout, kdyby nahrávání trvalo trochu déle, než chceme.
Pojďmě si více povídat o tobě. Říkal jsi, že pocházíš z trashmetalové scény. Co jsi dělal před Crystallion?
V roce 2006, tedy ve stejném roce, kdy Crystalion vydali své první album, jsem založil kapelu Action Bass Tom Band. To byl projekt death trash desek a dělali jsme spoustu zábavných věcí. Byli jsme malá kapela, neměli jsme ani být opravdová kapela, jen zábavný projekt se třemi chlápky a děláním blbostí. Ale lidem se to moc líbilo.
Proč jsi vůbec začal zpívat? Proč jsi chtěl být zpěvákem?
No, já jsem vlastně nikdy nechtěl být zpěvák. Začínal jsem jako baskytarista. Pak jsem se chtěl stát kytaristou, tak jsem hrál na kytaru. Když jsem byl kytaristou v trashové kapele, přišli jsme o zpěváka, a tak jsem začal zpívat. Později jsem byl ve Státech a hrál jsem v cover kapele. Tam jsem neměl žádný nástroj a oni potřebovali zpěváka, tak jsem tam začal zpívat. Tak jsem do toho vklouzl.
Máš nějaký vzkaz pro fanoušky?
Žijte svůj život, choďte na koncerty, ať je to jakákoli kapela, prostě prožívejte každou vteřinu svého života. A pokud se stane, že se vám naše hudba bude líbit, přijedeme do vašeho města, pokud nám dáte vědět, že nás tam chcete.
Když jsem přišel do kapely a začali jsme s prvními koncerty, pomáhal jsem jim se sociálními médii, protože na sociální média a podobné věci nikdo neodpovídal. Poznal jsem, že tam byl vždycky jeden člověk, který všechno lajkoval a psal nadšené komentáře. A byl někde z východu Polska, nedaleko od Varšavy. A já jsem říkal, že tam musíme hrát, tam je fanoušek! A tak jsme to udělali, v roce 2023 jsme hráli ve Varšavě v jednom tamním úžasném klubu a ten týpek přišel a znamenalo to pro něj všechno. Říkal, že si myslel, že nás nikdy neuvidí. A my tam byli!
Takže si radši dávejte pozor! Jo, dneska večer tu máme dámu z Francie. Předtím jsme se s ní poprvé setkali ve Švýcarsku. Takže je to její pátý koncert v řadě během jednoho roku. Takže ona je opravdu nadšená. Taky když jsme hráli ve Frankfurtu, přijel jeden Američan a přehodil si všechny plány s prací a tak, jen aby se na ten koncert dostal.
Takže máte silnou a věrnou fanouškovskou základnu?
No, je široce rozprostřená, takže když jedete do nějakého města tak tam máme třeba tři silné fanoušky. To pro nás hodně znamená. Je to malá kapka, ale znamená to svět.

When I went to the Metal Party in Zbytiny, I had arranged one more interview with the frontman of the Bavarian band Crystallion, Tony Sunclear.
Hello, Tony, It’s nice to meet you. You are still a new singer of Crystallion. So could you explain how did you get to this band and why did they choose you?
Nice meeting you. Well, it was the kind of fate, because I was moving back from the States to Austria. I always did some kind of music and I was longing for rock and roll. There was no metal in the area I lived and then I found the announce in the newspaper Crystallion still need a singer. I didn’t know the band at all and I just wrote them while they’re searching if it would be possible to jam with them. They said, yeah, come over. They also asked, Do you want to apply for the singer position? But I reply, I don’t think you would like me because I come from the death trash stuff. But even though they asked for some material. So I sent it to them. They answered me, you need to try at least. That’s how it started and the first rehearsal was awful. It was a total disaster. I wouldn’t hit any notes right and it was horrible, embarrassing. Well, then I came a second time and then I came a third time and then we did a fourth time and after the fourth time they offered me the job. It was getting better, so let’s try it.
But now you are happy to sing with them and to be with them?
Totally, totally, because I didn’t know any of their songs before. And then I learned those songs and we were like, wow, that’s insane. You know, I was raised with Manowar and stuff like that in the 90s. And there’s another fun fact. Martin, the drummer, and Steve, the bassist, we’ve all been at the same show in 1994 in Munich at the Manowar show without knowing each other. That’s why I’m saying it’s probably fate. It was just a matter of time until we finally ran into each other.
Are you planning to record some music together?
Yes, we already have songs set. There’s maybe three or four songs missing for an album. But actually in six weeks from now (12.4.2025) Martin will start the recording of the drums. We don’t have an exact time table so it might be released in the end of this year or in spring 2026. But it’s happening!
How are you enjoying your tour with Claymorean and Solar System?
It’s an honour to tour with Claymorean and Solar System. They’re real friends. Especially Solar System, we know each other since more than two years ago and we did a couple of shows together. It has the spirit of the metal family thing. Where it’s not about money, fame or stupid things and just having fun together, make metal, keep metal alive. We all share the same spirit and that’s why it feels like it’s meant to be.
So how are the fans acting? How was it in Germany?
It was quite stunning. When you think about it, maybe not that stunning as you might think. No matter where we’ve been, from the very first moment, when Solar System entered the stage until we left the stage, all people were there, all were screaming and shouting and moving. Until the last chord of the last band. And it was like that on every single show. I think the magic is because we did a co-headliner tour. Only people, who actually wanted to see us, came to our shows. So they were all there for us and they were all for a big party. It was just amazing. Not always a lot of people, we had some really low attendances, which was expected. But therefore it was even more cool that there was just a front row and it gave us everything.
How are you being accepted as a new singer?
Yeah, that’s a miracle, because the original singer Thomas left. I was a little bit scared, especially at the beginning where my singing was not where I wanted it to be. You won’t hear it tonight where I want it to be as well because I’m a little bit out of shape. But they accepted me like I’m family, or they would not even talk about it. It’s great.
How do you like Czech Republic and Czech audience?
Well, it’s not a coincidence that we come back to Czech Republic as often as we can. We love it here, here are good people, good crowd. It’s old school a little bit, you know, like it was meant to be. I would say even more here, in this small village. When we had the shows in Germany with Solar System and we talked to the people later they loved them. They really loved it you know like they might not be able to understand the lyrics, but I think that was the magic. Because you had to focus on the music. Oto (singer of Solar System) doesn’t speak much English or German, so he was smiling and he just got the people around. They loved him, because they are excited for the same thing. We lost the voice. Yeah, we also lost the old Crystallion banner. We left it in Frankfurt. We lost Patti, our guitarist. We lost so many things on that tour. So voice is just one thing on a long list.
Who is the main songwriter and lyric writer of the new songs on upcoming album?
Usually it’s Steve, but for the new upcoming album it’s all of us. Everybody has two, three songs where they are involved in the writing. They threw like four or even five songs on me, to write the lyrics. You’re the singer, you need to write the lyrics. You will be the one who sings them. So it was like group effort. Steve still has the last word usually, someone has to be. And he’s the founder and the oldest member, together with Martin.
What else are you preparing in the future?
We do not have any of the old CDs with us, only the last two albums, because they’re sold out. Also the record companies died and stuff. But now the rights are back to us, not for the first album, but the second and third album. We will do a reissue and because it’s too long for one vinyl so it has to be double album. We also have some cool ideas to fill in and make it even more special. That will be between the release of the new album, so we have something to offer if it takes a little longer than we want.
Maybe we can talk more about you. You said you are from the trash metal scene. What were you doing before Crystallion?
In 2006, same year when Crystalion released their first album I started a band called Action Bass Tom Band. And it was a trash desk project and we did a lot of fun things. We were a small band, we were not meant to be a real band, just a fun project with three dudes and making stupid things. But people liked it very much.
Why did you even start to sing? Why do you want to be a singer?
Well, I never wanted to be a singer. I started as a bass player. Then I wanted to become a guitar player, so I played guitar. When I was the guitar player in the trash band, we lost our singer and then I started to sing. Later I was in the States and I was in a cover band. I had no instrument there and they needed a singer and I started to sing there. That’s how I slipped into it.
Do you have some message for the fans?
Live your life, go out to concerts, no matter what band it is, just experience every single second of your life. And if it happens that you like our music, we’ll come to your city if you let us know that you want us there.
When I came to the band and we started the first shows I helped them with the social media because nobody would answer social media and stuff like that. I recognized there was always one guy liking everything and writing enthusiastic comments. And he was somewhere from the east of Poland, far off Warsaw. And I said We have to play there, there’s a fan! And so we did, in 2023, we played in Warsaw at an awesome club there, and that dude came and it meant everything to him. He was like, I thought I will never see you guys. And there we were!
So better watch out! Yeah, tonight we have a lady from France here. Before we already met her in Switzerland the first time. So it’s her fifth concert in a row in a year. So she is really enthusiastic. Also when we played in Frankfurt there was an American coming and he switched all his plans with work and stuff just to squeeze the show in.
So you have a strong and loyal fan base?
Well it’s widely spread so if you go to any city and you have three strong fans there. It means a lot to us. It’s a small drop, but it means the world.
