Před představením Feuerschwanz v Drážďanech jsem měla možnost strávit několik minut s Hansem Platzem a položit mu několik otázek. Report z koncertu zde na odkazu.
Zdravím vás, Hansi, ráda vás poznávám a děkuji vám za váš čas. Vím, že jste skvělý kytarista a Feuerschwanz není jediná kapela, se kterou hrajete. Mohl bys mi říct něco o těch dalších?
Děkuji. Moje druhé dítě je projekt s názvem Dark Side of the Moon. Dělám ho společně s Melissou Bonny, možná ji znáš, protože je to fantastická zpěvačka, dále s Mortenem Løwe Sørensenem, bubeníkem z Amaranthe, Korbinianem Benedictem, baskytaristou Ad Infinitum, a Jenny Diehl (tanečnice Feuerschwanz) hraje na harfu. Bereme témata a hudbu z filmů nebo her a přenášíme je do metalového světa a také jsme udělali několik vlastních písní. Myslím, že je to docela unikátní kombinace s harfou a Melissiným silným vokálem a všechno se to dobře mísí.
Skvěle, pojďme si teďpromluvit o Feuerschwanz. Tady v Německu jste velmi populární, ale v ostatních zemích světa už tolik ne.
Myslím, že to se chystáme změnit.
Doufám, že se tak stane. Je to hlavní důvod, proč vydáváte nové album v angličtině?
No, také letos je to 20 let od založení Feuerschwanz, takže jsme chtěli udělat něco speciálního, něco jiného. A mysleli jsme si, že je to dobrá příležitost, jak se trochu otevřít i neněmecky mluvícím zemím. Ale pořád se na německé texty soustředíme hlavně u budoucích alb. Už jsme začali hrát i mimo Německo, například jsme hráli na Masters of Rock a letos budeme hrát na Metalfestu. A také jsme letos hráli ve Španělsku nebo v Portugalsku a rovněž v Holandsku a Belgii. Takže pomalu šíříme slovo Feuerschwanz i mimo Německo. A to je docela fajn. Ale myslím, že anglické texty na chystané desce jsou jen takový pootevřený dveře. Pořád se totiž chceme soustředit na německé texty, protože si myslím, že je to něco, co nás dělá jedinečnými, protože je tolik metalových kapel, které zpívají anglicky, ale ne tolik metalových kapel, které zpívají německy. A to je naše součást, velká součást. A myslím, že podle ohlasů, které dostávám, se to většinou líbí i těm fanouškům, kteří neumí německy.
Pro mě je to velká motivace začít se učit německy. Zmínil jste dvacet let Feuerschwanz. Chystáte kromě alba ještě něco speciálního?
Jasně, samozřejmě. Máme velkou výroční show v Essenu, v Grugahalle, na největším Metfestu všech dob. To bude fantastické. Na prosinec jsme si pozvali Die Apokalyptischen Reiter a Illumishade a nějaké další hosty, které zatím ještě nejsou ohlášeni. Bude to naše největší halová show v historii, je to opravdu obrovská hala, myslím, že se tam vejde asi 7000 lidí.
Zní to opravdu skvěle. Zmínil jsi, že jsi hrál na Masters of Rock. Myslíš, že je rozdíl v atmosféře, když hrajete před českým nebo německým publikem?
Myslím, že ty písničky fungují jinak. Některé písničky, které v Německu fungují docela dobře, kvůli textům, i když třeba nejsou hudebně tak vyspělé. Reakce na rozdílné písně jsou různé. Je to docela zajímavé sledovat. Ale nejpřekvapivější pro nás bylo, když jsme poprvé hráli ve Španělsku nebo v České republice, že lidé vlastně zpívali německá slova. Bylo to šílené. Bylo to pro nás velké překvapení, protože většinou to jako Němec nečekáte, víte.
Těšíte se, že opět navštívíte Českou republiku a přijedete na Metalfest?
Určitě. Je to pro nás velká čest hrát mimo Německo, to je pro nás stále nové. Takže je vzrušující vidět, co se tam děje se všemi ostatními kapelami. Víte, my vždycky hrávali v Německu a sledovali jsme, jak ostatní kapely jezdí do Česka, Polska nebo Francie, a teď tam jedeme taky. Jsem z toho opravdu nadšený. Česká republika je nám vlastně strašně blízká, protože jsme z jižního Německa, takže dává smysl hrát tam.

Before the show of Feuerschwanz in Dresden I had a chance to spend a few minutes with Hans Platz and ask a few question.
Hello Hans, it’s pleasure to meet you and thank you for your time. I know you’re a great guitarist and Feuerschwanz is not the only band you play with. Could you tell me something about the other?
Thank you. My other baby is project called Dark Side of the Moon. I’m doing it together with Melissa Bonny, maybe you know her, because she is a fantastic singer, also with Morten Løwe Sørensen, the drummer from Amaranthe, Korbinian Benedict, the bass player of Ad Infinitum and Jenny Diehl (dancer of Feuerschwanz) plays the harp. We are taking themes and music from movies or games, and bring them into the metal world and we also did some original songs. I think it’s quite a unique combination with a harp and Melissa’s strong vocals and it all mixes very well.
Okay, let’s talk about Feuerschwanz now. You are very popular here in Germany, but not so much in the other countries in the world.
I think we’re going to change it.
I hope you will. Is that the main reason you’re releasing a new album in English language?
Well, it’s 20 years of Feuerschwanz as well, so we wanted to do something special, something different. And we thought it’s a good opportunity to open up to non-German speaking countries a little bit. But we still keep our main focus on the German lyrics with future albums. We already started playing outside of Germany, like we did play Masters of Rock and going to play Metalfest this year. And we also played in Spain or in Portugal this year, and also in Holland and Belgium. So we’re slowly spreading the word of Feuerschwanz outside of Germany. And it’s kind of cool. But I think the English lyrics for the upcoming album is just a door opener. Because we still want to focus on German lyrics, because I think it’s something which makes us unique, because there’s so many metal bands singing English, but not so many metal bands singing in German. And that’s a part, big part of us. And I think from the feedback which I get, usually the non-German speaking fans like it.
For me it’s a great motivation to start learning German. You mentioned the 20 years of Feuerschwanz. Do you have something special planed besides your album?
Right, of course. We have a big anniversary show in Essen, the Grugahalle, the biggest Metfest of all times. This will be fantastic. In December we invited Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and Illumishade and some other guests which are not announced yet. This will be our biggest indoor show ever, it’s really huge hall, I think about 7000 people fit in there.
Sounds really great. You mentioned you were playing at Masters of Rock. Do you think there is a difference in the atmosphere when you play the Czech crowd or the German crowd?
I think the songs work differently. Some songs which work in Germany quite well because of the lyrics, which are maybe musically not that advanced. The reactions are different to different songs. It’s quite interesting to see. But the most surprising part for us was when we first played in Spain or in the Czech Republic that actually people sang the German words. It was crazy. It was a big surprise for us, because usually you’re not expecting this as a German, you know.
Are you looking forward to visit Czech republic again and to come to Metalfest?
Absolutely. It’s a big honour for us to play outside Germany and it’s still new to us. So it’s exciting to see what’s going on there with all the other bands. You know, we always play in Germany and we were watching other bands going to Czech republic or Poland or France and now we’re going as well. I’m really excited about it. Czech republic is actually so close to us, because we are from southern Germany, so it makes sense to play there.
